The Sixties Scoop

Over 20,000 children were taken from their families under guise and adopted out to white families between the 1950's to 1980's. This government and organized religion sponsored tactic was systematically done to further facilitate the stripping Indian children of their history, lineage and way of life.

My Personal Account of the Sixties Scoop when they took away my eldest daughter.

During the time I was in college, I was receiving services with the Dallas Intertribal Center,  through the mental health program under Dr. Ruth Anne Erickson. In family counseling, it was discussed that my eldest daughter was having behavioral issues and anger towards her younger sibling.

Dr. Erickson along with a child case worker suggested my daughter be placed in a temporary foster situation while we worked on the mental health counseling that would help me positively handle the sibling rivalry that was happening in my household.

I agreed to a temporary 2 week placement at which time she was placed with a family here in Dallas County. During the temporary placement, the family went through the court system and with no notification or correspondence, they adopted my daughter from under me. They changed her birth certificate, totally wiping out the biological parent's names which were myself and Phillip Charles Larvie.

When I went to get my daughter after the two weeks, i was told "You don't have a daughter here anymore."

This proves that the scoop of native children was still taking place in Texas as late as 1976. Family members of mine, that were taken in the sixties scoop are my daughter Philana Alexander; my cousin Terry Silk; my cousin George Brought Plenty; my cousin Debra Sharpfish and myself Deloris Gakin aka Dora Brought Plenty.
